from

$1800/ project

Your users are on their phones and you want to be there too. We start from the two or three essential things they need to be able to do, and deliver an app they actually install.

Book a first call

30 minutes, no commitment, a few quick questions when you book.

who it's for

You're in the right place if

  • Your users mostly reach you from their phones
  • You already have a service or an API and it is missing an app
  • You want to validate a mobile idea with real users before investing further
  • You need phone-specific features: notifications, camera, location

Another package will suit you better if

  • A well-designed mobile website would be enough: it is often cheaper and faster, and I will tell you so
  • You have neither a backend nor an API: that needs to be built first, see the Web application package
  • You are aiming for a game or a 3D-heavy app: that is not my specialty

the process

  1. First conversation

Your involvement: 30 minutes, a few quick questions when you book

First we check one thing: is a mobile app really the right answer to your need? If a mobile website is enough, I tell you - it will cost you less.

  2. MVP scoping

Your involvement: 1 to 2 working sessions

We isolate the must-have features of the first version. A successful mobile app does a few things very well: anything that can wait for version 2 waits for version 2.

  3. Screen mockups

    Your involvement: One sign-off

You see the screens and the flows between them before development. Navigation habits differ between iOS and Android: we settle those choices here.

  4. Development and testing on your phone

Your involvement: You test the intermediate builds

I send you installable builds as we go. You use the app on your own phone while it is being built, not just at the end.

  5. App store publishing

Your involvement: Creating your developer accounts

I prepare the listings, visuals and required files, and guide the submission to the App Store and Google Play. Review by Apple and Google takes as long as they decide.

deliverables

  • The app published on Google Play and the App Store, under your accounts
  • The complete source code, in your Git repository
  • The store listings: description, screenshots, icon
  • A walkthrough so you can publish your future updates

the budget

  • The number of screens and the complexity of the user flows
  • Phone-specific features: notifications, offline mode, in-app payments
  • Whether or not an API is ready to use
  • Target platforms: Android only, or Android and iOS

what to prepare

To get started, all I need is

  • One person on your side who can make decisions and test the intermediate builds
  • Being able to say, in one sentence, what the user comes to the app to do

We build the rest together

If you have none of this, that's normal and it won't hold us back: that's exactly what the scoping step is for.

  • Apple and Google developer accounts - paid and in your name, I guide you through it
  • The API or backend to connect, if it already exists
  • The list of screens and features for the first version
  • Your logo, your colors and the app icon

questions

Why the same starting price as the web application?
Because they are two different scopes requiring comparable effort. The web application includes the backend and the database; the mobile package covers the app itself and connects to an existing API. If the backend also needs to be built, that is quoted on top.
Is a single app for both Android and iOS possible?
Yes, that is exactly the point of React Native: a single codebase powers both platforms. You avoid paying for two builds, and updates only need to be made once.
Do I pay for the Apple and Google developer accounts?
Yes, and that is intentional: these accounts must be in your name so the app truly belongs to you. They are paid - an annual subscription with Apple, a one-time fee with Google. I help you set them up.
How long before the app is on the stores?
Development depends on the scope, which we set during scoping. On top of that comes review by Apple and Google, whose timing is up to them and that no one can guarantee - I prepare the submission to maximize the chances of passing on the first try.

get started

The first call is about finding out whether the project holds up. If it doesn't, I'll tell you - that's more useful to you than a quote.
